87% of statistics online are 'made up'

Researchers found that most reports are just made up on the spot

Researchers at a Welsh university have discovered that 87% statistics that are found online are made up on the spot.

Dr David Dinglebits said that people were just inventing figures and posting them online.

He told WalesOnCraic:

“I just don’t understand why people do this. It’s like they’ve got nothing better to do than to make up stuff and post it online. We did some digging and found that an astonishing 87% statistics that are posted online are just made up on the spot.

“I don’t know what they’re trying to achieve. My wife always tells me not to worry about it all but she knows nothing about real life. She just sits around watching The Kardashians all day while I’m sat here, working away like a little beaver. I can’t see the marriage lasting another year. It’s like she doesn’t love me anymore.”

Dinglebits and his team have also discovered that of the 87% statistics that are made up, only 9% of those have been spotted by fact-checkers.

“She hates me,” added Dinglebits. “I do my best. I work hard and all she does is moan about how lazy I am. I’m not lazy. I do need my rest, like everyone else. It’s just not fair.”

Dr Dinglebits said that his next project will be analysing the price of Freddos over a 30 year period.

“I think I want a divorce,” he said.
