Welsh tattoos gaining popularity among Asia-Pacific women
Demand for Welsh tattoos is gaining huge popularity among Asia-Pacific women - but they have no idea what the wording means
Demand for Welsh tattoos is gaining huge popularity among Asia-Pacific women - but they have no idea what the wording means.
Requests for tattoos with sayings like ‘Over by yer, mun’ and ‘Now in a minute’ are at a record high, even though recipients have no idea of their meaning.
Max Pain, who runs a Welsh tattoo shop in South Korea told WalesOnCraic:
“I opened my tattoo shop last year and was inundated with requests for Welsh tattoos. They come in and pick them out of a book but they’ve got no clue as to what any of them mean. They just like the look of them. I did one today that read ‘Two packets of cheese and onion crisps and a pint of dark, please’ and the woman went away very happy.
“My most popular one is ‘Over by yer, mun’. People get those plastered all over their bodies - I even had one woman have that one scrawled across her forehead. She had no idea what it meant but she thought she looked cool.”
Mr Pain said that popularity for Welsh tattoos is now so high, he may open a second shop before the end of the year.
“I’m making a fortune, mun. I should be able to retire by the end of next year.”
